The SFU Stadium
State-of-the-art 1,800-seat stadium at Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, BC), featuring modern curtain-wall glazing, aluminum doors and glass guardrails by Sky Windows.

A Dynamic New Home for Campus Athletics and Community Gathering
The SFU Stadium is a newly built outdoor athletics facility at SFU’s Burnaby Mountain campus, serving both as a permanent home for student-athletes and a central gathering space for the broader campus community. Designed to host sports, cultural events, and community gatherings, the stadium overlooks the Lower Mainland and integrates seamlessly into campus life, offering 1,823 formal seats, a dramatic cantilevered roof canopy for covered seating, and over 300 informal seating spots on terraces and embankments.

The Scope
The project involved substantial glazing and glass-system work by Sky Windows. Their scope included installation of exterior curtain walls, aluminum doors, and glass guardrails forming part of the stadium’s building envelope. Given the structural and architectural ambition of the stadium, including a large cantilevered roof designed to “float” above the spectator stands — the glazing systems had to be carefully integrated with complex structural elements and outdoor seating areas, offering durability against weather, robust performance under heavy usage, and architectural clarity that supports open sight lines across the field and seating bowl.
The Outcome
The stadium was completed in 2021. The facility now provides Simon Fraser University with a permanent outdoor home for athletics and a versatile community venue, enhancing campus life with modern spectator seating, accessible amenities, media and broadcast-ready facilities, and a signature architectural canopy that doubles as functional shelter and campus landmark. The glazing and glass-system work by Sky Windows contributed to a high-quality building envelope that supports both functionality and design ambition, helping deliver a long-anticipated facility for SFU.
