Revitalizing a Community Aquatic Landmark in Burnaby Heights
Located at 240 Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby’s Heights neighbourhood, Eileen Dailly Leisure Pool & Fitness Centre is a long-standing municipal aquatic and recreation facility serving families, swimmers, and fitness enthusiasts. The Centre includes a 25-metre lap pool, a leisure pool with beach-entry, a children’s water play area, sauna, steam room, fitness and weight facilities, and until recently, an iconic indoor waterslide, making it a central hub for community wellness, recreation, and family activity.
The Scope
In response to aging structural and envelope components surrounding the facility’s waterslide tower, the City of Burnaby initiated a full renovation in 2021. The project required reconstruction of the glazed tower housing the waterslide, a complex structural element exposed to moisture, heavy use, and safety standards. The glazing specialist Sky Windows was contracted by Turner Construction to manufacture and install new exterior curtain walls and aluminum doors as part of the waterslide tower rebuild. Their work restored structural integrity, improved weather resistance and long-term durability, and updated the aesthetic envelope, ensuring the tower meets modern performance and design standards for a public aquatic facility.
The Outcome
Completed in 2023, the renovation restored full functionality of the waterslide tower at Eileen Dailly, preserving an important amenity for the community. The new glazing and door installations by Sky Windows reinforced the building’s envelope against moisture and heavy usage typical of aquatic centres, while refreshing the appearance and maintaining transparency and natural light where appropriate. As a result, the facility continues to serve as a vibrant community recreation centre, offering aquatic, fitness, and leisure services to residents of Burnaby and surrounding areas.
